In 2G we are curious readers!

In  2G we have been reading The Tear Thief. Together we were able to identify key words that help give meaning to a text.  We have been learning about the importance of verbs, adjectives  and adverbs and how these engage the reader.

“Every evening, she moves soundlessly about the town in her silk slippers, collecting children’s tears and popping them into her silvery waterproof sack. No-one can see her, because her reflection is only visible in puddles, but wherever she goes, she works a special magic, and the child she is visiting has no need to cry any more.”

We had the following questions about the Tear Thief:

Ashton – How can she take tears? Why does she need the tears?

Aiden – What does she do with the tears she collects?

Baani – Why is she invisible? Does she collect her own tears?

Eman – What does the tear thief look like? Does she collect the tears for a reason?

Mia – How does she make magic? Where does the tear thief live?

Ela – Why is she magic? How does she know who’s crying?

Aleyna – How does she get the tears?  Why are the children crying?

Blessing – Why does she collect the tears?

Lachlan – Where does she take the tears?

What questions do you have after reading the first passage from ‘The Tear Thief’?

  1. Why did she need the tears?
Why did she only take children’s tears?
Does the tear thief work alone or does she have helpers?
