Zones of Regulation

Last week we started looking at the Zones of Regulation. There are four different zones: blue, green, yellow and red, which are used to describe our level of alertness and how we are feeling. The green zone is the zone we want to be in because it means that we are ready to learn! We discussed how we might be feeling in each zone and then came up with strategies we can use for each one to help us get back into the green zone. We have been linking the Zones of Regulation to how we are feeling each day when we do our morning check in.

Safer Internet Day

Last Tuesday was Safer Internet Day. On this day we did lots of activities learning about how we can be safe online. We learnt that when we post things on the internet we do not really know who is looking at it. This means that we need to make sure that if we do post something online, we do not give away any of our personal information. Personal information is information like our address, phone number, name, birthday etc.

Our challenge was to create a collage that could be posted online, which showed our personality but did not give away any personal information.

Can you guess who the collages below might belong to?

Year 2 Communications

Thank you to all parents, guardians and students for such a wonderful transition into Year 2, 2018. We really appreciate all the support and interactions that we have already had in regards to learning experiences within the classrooms.

We highly encourage all family members to be involved in your child’s learning throughout the year. To do this we have a range of communication methods that you can access for each class. Our wonderful and enthusiastic students will contributing to these with their work, feedback and photos displaying the learning they have been involved in. We would love if you could access these and look through them as a family to discuss the learning experiences. Class teachers and specialist teachers update these regularly.

Compass is also used to send out reminders about important events coming up. The Year 2 teachers put up a Compass post to encourage parents to check out new Blog posts.

We encourage you and the wider community to reply and give feedback on our posts. We look forward to sharing these in our classrooms and to have parents involved makes it even more special. This allows us to be connected and gives you an insight into our learning experiences.

Welcome to 2D!

Welcome to the 2D community, we have had a busy first week at school!

Learning Spaces

On Thursday, we began thinking about what we wanted our learning community to look like. In groups, we worked together to design a plan of our classroom. We counted the number of tables, tub trollies and bookshelves in our room and then drew these in our plan. At the end of the session, we shared our plans with the class and gave each other feedback on our designs. We then joined all our ideas together to create our learning community space.

‘I think we should move the rubbish bin to the middle of the room so that it is easier for people to get to.’ – Suprateek

‘I think we should move the square table outside so that we can learn outside.’ – Caitlin

Community Agreement

On Thursday, we went for a walk around the school, searching for different parts of the positive school wide behaviour framework. We took pictures on our iPads of each one we found. When we got back to the classroom, we worked together in groups, to write examples of how we could show each of these behaviours. We linked these to the school values and then created our community agreement. You can read our community agreement below.

Community Responsibilities

On Monday, we brainstormed the roles and responsibilities people have in the Craigieburn community. We then used ‘what if…’ statements to deepen our thinking about the importance of these roles and responsibilities. Through this, we realised that all communities need roles and responsibilities to work well. This meant that we needed to think of what roles and responsibilities we needed in the 2D community. We shared our ideas and decided, as a community, that we needed Line Leaders, Hero Monitors, a Timer Monitor, Lunch Order Monitors and Office Monitors.

Stay tuned to continue to follow our learning journey!

Welcome to the Year 2 blog! Here we will share with you all the amazing learning and fun that has been taking place both inside and outside our classrooms.

We encourage students, parents, grandparents and carers to regularly visit and make comments on our blogs. Please be sure to use first names only to maintain privacy.

Our individual class blogs will help the students learn many important skills, like communicating safely and appropriately in online environments, writing posts, revising and editing, uploading images and files, communicating with others and much more.

This year the Year 2 team consists of nine grades.

2A – Mrs Rushworth

2B – Miss Davis

2C – Mrs Mladenis

2D – Miss Ashby

2E – Miss Sahin

2F – Miss Barba

2G – Miss Papargiris

Year 2 Teachers

Perspective drawing- environments

In 2G we have been very busy this term learning about one point perspective drawing. We created perspective landscape drawings using coloured pencils and learnt about using vanishing points in our drawings. We think that our skills have improved heaps using this technique and we hope to explore more perspective drawing skills in the future. What do you think of our environments?

birds in the environment- recycled collage

In term four 2G have been exploring collage using different recycled materials to make artworks of nesting birds. In spring we see a lot of nesting birds in our environment around the school. This inspired our collages and we think they are very beautiful. How can you help birds survive in their environment? The prep classes made feeders in term two to help them survive. Our collages are also environmentally friendly as they have been made out of 100% recycled materials. We love using things we find in our resource rescue box to make Artworks.

Year 2 Sleepover

On Wednesday the 6th of December, we had the Year Two Sleepover at Aitken Creek Primary School. We changed into casual clothes. After that, we went to the learning neighbourhood and we played ‘The Invisible Ball’.

We played some outdoor games all together.

Then we came to free time on the playground.

Later, we had afternoon tea, which was fruit and biscuits.

After that, we had a scavenger hunt. In the scavenger hunt, we had to find the teachers and follow the instructions on the posters.  Some were easy and some were hard. There were lots of people and activities.

We had delicious fish and chips for dinner.

After dinner we had free time and icy poles. Some people got their icy poles the next day. Then we went inside and and set up our sleeping bags, brushed our teeth, changed into pyjamas and watched a movie, which was Monsters University. Then we all went to bed.

In the morning we ate breakfast which included rice bubbles, cornflakes. toast and juice. After breakfast we brushed our teeth. We had to pack our sleeping bags, tidy up and change back into our uniform. Then we watched the Bee Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in the morning.

We had a great time at the sleepover.

Water and the environment

In Year One and Two we have been looking at how the water from drains affects the water in our oceans and bays. We read the book “I Only Drain Rain” and designed out own water awareness posters. We hope that they will make people think about the environment and stop littering.

All of us can make a difference by collecting rubbish and making sure that we never throw anything on the streets that can end up in the drains.

We hope they inspire you to make a difference.
