Were you at the Specialist Showcase last week?! It was a huge success and was fantastic to see so many parents coming down with us to see the highlights of our specialist classes. Hopefully you had a look at the Gallery while you were there because we had a great showcase of student work ranging from Term 1 to Term 3. It was like walking through a sea of colour and creativity! If you didn’t get a chance to see the gallery, or you want to see some of it again, check out the gallery pictures in this blog. There’s also some great pictures of some of us and our parents enjoying the art activities. It was pretty busy at times in the art rooms, so hopefully everyone who came a long had a chance to participate. Grade 1s and 2s had already done the activities in Miss Kirk’s room, so they were great teachers on the night to those of us that hadn’t done them before! In Miss Thomas’ room, there was painting happening for a secret picture, which she will shortly be revealing! Please enjoy these pictures!
This term we have been curious about making different effects with paint. We tried blowing it, spinning it, pouring it and scraping it.
The art works below are made using a salad spinner. We made predictions about what would happen when we put the ink in the spinner and then gave it a spin. We think the effects are amazing.
When we finished spinning our work we used markers to draw contour lines around the shapes that the spinner had made. The ink made swirling shapes and patterns and even mixed together to make new colours. We hope you enjoy our work.
The results have come in and the hard work we’ve all been putting in has paid off. We have officially finished in the TOP 10 nationally for Word Mania. Classroom teachers will be handing out certificates to all students by the end of the week so make sure you celebrate our efforts. We are super proud of our amazing achievements!
Harry: Gave a thumbs up for our achievements.

Dear Parents and Carers,
On behalf of 2F, we just wanted to say a big thank you for all the hard work and effort that was put into all the costumes for todays Book Week Dress Up. It was fantastic to see everyone in all their amazing outfits portraying their favourite book characters.
Stay tuned for another blog post with all our fun from the day!
From, Miss Alebakis 🙂
Dear parents and carers,
Today we had a parade to celebrate Book Week. Everyone came to school dressed up as characters from books. Each grade had a turn to strut down the catwalk and display their creative costumes.
In our writing session, we could choose a character we were dressed up as or another character to describe the inside and outside traits using adjectives. Here are a few examples of our work:
We also created a graph of the different types of costumes including fairy tale characters, superheroes, horror characters and realistic characters. We interpreted the data to find out which costumes were most popular and so on.
Thank you everyone for participating in Book Week. Also thank you to all the families for helping to create and organise some fantastic costumes! We wouldn’t have had so much fun without your help.
Good Afternoon Parents and Carers!
Over the next two weeks our students will be participating in the Maths Superhero Challenge created by Manga High. Students can earn points for our school by completing any activities whether it may be, Games or Prodigi tasks. Students who demonstrate mastery earn medallions and each medal is worth a certain number of points.
We are encouraging students to complete activities and games over the next two weeks, to not only work towards participating in the challenge, but to built upon their maths knowledge.
We look forward to seeing what we can do over the next two weeks.
Best of luck to all who are participating.
As you know the last few weeks the year 2 students have been participating in the 2017 Word Mania competition. In round 1, we were so amazed with our result, we finished the competition 1st on the leaderboard out of 4000 year 2 classes in the entire country!
In round 2, we finished 3rd nationally as well. However, in our region we have been ranking first throughout the entire competition. We are extremely proud of the efforts all our students have made throughout the competition and have noticed massive improvements in our writing.
Since we have been on an amazing streak while playing Word Mania, we had a special visitor from Literacy Planet and she gave us a special prize pack for all of our incredible efforts!
We are currently playing in the final round and it finishes at midnight tonight so all of us are encouraging our students to keep playing and making some incredible words.
Challenge: How many words can you make using these letters? What is the longest word you can make? What word can you make that will have the most points?
Comment all your words below, we cannot wait to see what you can all make!
Wow! What an amazing start to the term! All the grade twos have been busy exploring different curiosities and developing their knowledge.
This week and the coming weeks we are going to be looking at addition and subtraction. If you know of any awesome games that link to addition and subtraction please add a comment to our blog so we can play them in class as well.
One game that we know is really fun is Subtraction snap. Played with two players, each player gets half a deck of cards. At the same time each player flips a card over. The first person to figure out the difference between the two numbers collects the cards. The game is played until one player has no more cards left.
Let us know what you think of the game and we cannot wait to hear about and play all the games you have suggested too us!
Round 1 has started for Word Mania and there are heaps of prizes to be won. Already we are ranked in the top 10 nationally. Make sure you jump on have a go and try to beat your best score. Don’t forget to have fun and talk to your family about how this can improve our spelling by practising daily.
